The Social Justice Commission
The Social Justice Commission responds to the social problems within the
parish, to the local community and to the needs of the broader world.
Did you see our display on fair trade products at the Fall Festival? We
have been trying to educate the parish about fair trade and where to
purchase fair trade products locally. Have you seen our Respect
for Life display and materials? We want you to be informed about the
Catholic perspective on life issues. Do you know how poverty
affects people locally or worldwide? Can you see yourself making a
display or helping with non-perishable food collection for the local
food bank? Did you enjoy Operation Rice Bowl last year? Do you want to
be part of the planning for our Rice Tasting from Around the World this
year? Do you have some ideas about fun activities for Earth Day?
Are you interested in eco-friendly practices for our homes and church?
How informed are you about legislative issues? Are you interested in
watching for issues and taking action at the parish level occasionally?
Have you always thought about using your time and talents on a mission
trip some day? Would you like to be part of planning a mission trip for
St. John parish?
If any of these activities excite you, then maybe this is the year you
would like to get involved with the Social Justice Commission. We have
fun. We learn. And most importantly, we are helping ourselves and St.
John fulfill our social mission to the Church. We see social ministry
not as an added burden to our parish but as apart of what keeps our
parish alive and makes us truly Catholic. It is a reflection of the
gospel, of a worshiping and evangelizing people and of a faithful
community. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month. Please join
us.
Stop by the Social Justice Commission table at the Time and Talent Fair
on October 27/28 to talk to us or sign up.

The
Administration and Maintenance Commission.
The Administration and Maintenance Commission oversees the temporal
needs of the parish including the monetary resources entrusted to the
parish, the physical upkeep of the facility, and the utilization of
technology.
The Administration and Maintenance Commission communicates with other
parish commissions to provide for the fiscal needs of their particular
work by developing an annual budget in collaboration with the Pastoral
Council.
We oversee the church’s financial support by recruiting, training, and
supervising the money counters. We review, periodically, actual income
and expenditures of the parish versus budgeted income and expenditures,
and recommend action when they deviate. We utilize and update technology
for the parish staff.
We also inspect, periodically, the parish properties so that they remain
in proper repair. We submit a list of priority repairs and improvements
to the Pastoral Council as a guide to the parish maintenance needs.
This committee thus provides the necessary administrative and financial
skills necessary to maintain the resources entrusted to the parish while
overseeing the parish physical plant.

FAITH FORMATION COMMISSION
“The parish is, without a doubt, the most important locus in which the
Christian community is formed and expressed. This is called to be a
fraternal and welcoming family where Christians become aware of being
the people of God.” (General Directory for Catechesis,
no.257)
The Faith Formation Commission is an elected group of parishioners who
gather monthly to access our current catechetical (educational) efforts
and vision for the future. Visioning for the future includes discovering
the catechetical needs of our parish and deciding how we can best meet
those needs. The responsibilities of this commission range far beyond
simply overseeing the religious education of our youth. The Faith
Formation Commission is called to serve the educational/faith formation
needs of older adults, adults, families, young adults, adolescents,
children, people with disabilities, and those who are marginalized. We
are all called to be lifelong learners of our faith, so our overall goal
is to create within our faith community an atmosphere of learning and
development that provides the experiences and information we need to
nurture and sustain the seeds of faith planted within each of us.
Our commission meets the 4th Monday at 5:45 pm every month except
December and July.
All meetings are open to parishioners. Please contact Denise Brannaman,
Chairperson, 895-8291 or Katie Pfiffner, Director of Faith Formation,
895-6758 if you would like more information.

Parish Community Life
Commission
The primary mission of the Parish Community Life Commission is to
encourage a sense of community, belonging and hospitality within our
parish. We gather as a church family in various ways throughout the year
to celebrate occasions such as First Communion, Confirmation, Ash
Wednesday and, of course, the Food and Fellowship events after Mass.
Getting involved with St. John's Parish Community Life Commission is a
wonderful opportunity to meet people, have some fun and most
importantly, a way to actively answer the Church's call to hospitality.
The Parish Community Life Commission is sending out an invitation for
new members of the commission to help plan and implement our mission. We
are also in need of a pool of volunteers that may want to help
occasionally with an activity but may not be interested in the planning
and organizing of events on a regular basis. The Parish Community Life
volunteers help by hosting, serving and cleaning up at these functions.
There are many ways big and small to serve.
As Catholics, we are all asked to be generous with our time and talents.
Please consider lending a hand now and then; and if you are interested
in being a member, we would love to have you join the Parish Community
Life Commission.
Some questions to consider: Could my family host the Food and Fellowship
gathering one time after mass this year? Could I contribute to a
reception or two with donations of food or time? Might I welcome
newcomers by bringing a welcome basket to their home?
Please contact Dave or Natalie Klostermann at 455-2707. There is also a
sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the church hallway. We will also
recruit help by phone. Parish Community Life Commission members are:
Dave and Natalie Klostermann (Co-chairs) Kathy Dix
Craig Brooks (Pastoral Council rep) Jenny Hampton
Sonia Redmond (Pastoral Council rep) Mollie Marti

SPIRITUAL LIFE AND
LITURGY COMMISSION
We are called by our baptism to carry out the mission of Christ. Our
words and actions should bear witness to the presence of our God in this
world. We all struggle with the pull of the secular world and the hunger
for a spiritual life. The goal of the Spiritual Life and Liturgy
Commission is to nurture our parishioners in areas of prayer, ministry
and worship.
How in the world do we do that?
The major focus is our weekly Worship. We recruit and train ministers
for our Eucharistic celebrations, (lectors, hospitality ministers, Music
Ministers, Eucharistic ministers and altar servers). The decorations,
flowers, backdrop and other environment items are provided to enhance
the community celebration of our liturgies. Guidelines from the
Archdiocese are brought to the attention of this commission. Have you
noticed Father Jim purifying the vessels at the end of Mass? This is a
recent change and one of the types of things that come to us from the
bishop. Anything that pertains to our celebration of Mass involves SLLC.
This group also does planning for the seasons
of the liturgical year. In doing so, we set into motion things such as
morning and evening prayer, small study/prayer groups, retreat/renewal
days and times of adoration as well as the seasonal changes in the
weekend Liturgies. We also provide items such as seasonal prayer cards
for families to use at home. Advent, Christmas, Lent and the Easter
season are our busy times. SLLC also searches out means of personal
spiritual growth. The group has read and discussed books on different
topics and encourages the entire parish to do the same. Again, we hope
to enhance your spiritual life through prayer, service and worship.
At the core of Jesus' life were prayer, ministry and worship. This is
what WE all are called to. How can you be Christ for our world? How can
the SLLC help you with that? We welcome input from everyone. Please
consider joining us!!
