Faith Formation Commission Meeting Agenda

June 25, 2007

Attendance: Denise Brannaman, Sue Schettler, Mark Butz, George Erwin, Dan Deininger, Kathy Conley

Absent: Melanie Wilch, Benton Frey

Minutes:

Chairman’s Report: Mark welcomed the committees newest members Kathy Conley and Dan Deininger. To update Dan and Kathy, the committee reviewed the need to hire a DRE and our vision for the future of religious education in our parish.

DRE and YM Reports:

Our new DRE, Katie Pfiffner, will officially begin serving our parish on August 1, 2007. She has put in some time already familiarizing herself with our parish and her position. Discussed also was the need to reassess our vision for the youth ministry position and ministry, not our youth minister, Loraine. After discussion, we decided it would be beneficial to view the ministry/job description and form a sub-committee, including the youth minister and our DRE, to evaluate the goals of YM and hours allotted in the budget for the youth minister.

Julie Johnson will be at our next RE Committee meeting on Aug. 27 to run an inservice to begin our year.

We need to reference our constitution to determine the rules on absences from RE meetings.

Once again, feedback from CLI was very positive!

Elections were held for the coming year. Nominated by unanimous decision were:

Hospitality: None

Budget: The pastoral council approved the budget including the DRE position.

Adult Formation: None

Vacation Bible School: As of now, no one has stepped up to lead VBS. The challenge is we are in a transition period between our former CRE and new DRE.

Recruitment: None

April 23, 2007

Our meeting consisted of reviewing the job description for the DRE. The committee used the Archdiocese of Dubuque hiring packet 2006-2007 as a guide to help finalize the job description. Mark, George and Sue met April 24 the finalize the entire document.

March 26, 2007

The entire meeting consisted of discussing the need for a DRE instead of a CRE as well as the desired abilities and talents the new DRE needs to bring to our parish. The committee also discussed the Archdiocesan salary schedule and how that relates to our education budget. The group came to a consensus to hire the best DRE available to help us renovate and revitalize our parish and its entire education ministry.

Feb. 26, 2007

Minutes: January 22nd minutes approved.
Chairman’s Report: None
DRE and YM Reports:
Youth Ministry-see Loraine’s Feb. 21st report.
DRE-Budget overview and discussion. RE fees discussed in detail and due to budget demands, the consensus was to raise the fees as follows for the 2007-2008 school year:
1 Child $65 to $70
2 Children $120 to $130
3 Children $165 to $175
4 or more Children $185 to $190
Michelle and Loraine also attended a workshop in Cedar Falls that studied a survey of youth and parents of different religions and faiths. It suggested Catholics need to focus and strengthen in 2 areas. 1-Social Aspects 2-Sending Kids out and Bringing them back
Old Business: None
New Business: The women’s group “Fresh Bread” recently had its first activity. It was well received by about 40 women.
Lenten Retreat will be held Sat. March 10th from 2-8pm. The focus will be on prayer.
Committee Reports:
Hospitality: April 29, there will be a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon after mass.
Budget: Previewed anticipated budget for 2007-08 and discussed RE fees.
Adult Formation: Adult Lent Retreat: March 10th 2-8pm
Vacation Bible School: Still need leader to take run VBS
Recruitment: Send names to Sue of possible RE members and teachers.
