Parish Community Life Commission

October 11, 2007

Meeting Notes

1) Upcoming Events:

--First Communion Reception 10/14.  We did the final planning on this event.

--Food & Fellowship 10/20 after Saturday evening mass.  Discussed this event.  There will be a parish wide renovation update after each mass that weekend, so we will provide food for the Saturday evening presentation.

--We discussed the Time & Talent Fair coming up on 10/27 & 28.  We want to redo our tri-fold display for our commission.  This will be a good time to invite parishioners to sign up to help with events throughout the year.

2) Extended calendar:

We then made a tentative calendar of events through June 2008.  This will be presented to Sue so that we

can prevent conflicts with other parish events.

3) Review of Confirmation Reception:

Discussed the amount of food we went through and some of the comments we heard from people that attended.

4) PCLC Supplies and Storage:

We have purchased a good supply of paper products, etc.  We stored them in the basement kitchen and marked them "PCLC."

5) New members/helpers:

We really need more parishioners to pitch in—even if it is for only ONE event ALL year.  We talked about how to get the word out and accomplish this.

Meeting Notes

1) Prayer: Opening pray and reflection.

2) Future meeting time: We discussed our regular meeting place and time. We will meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at St. John's. We talked about adding this meeting to the church's web site calendar.

3) Commission vs. committee: We discussed the Parish Council's request that the various parish committees be referred to as "commissions" rather than "committees." This shift is meant to lend a more spiritual tone to our scope of service.

4) Mission statement: We reviewed our Commission's current mission statement. We want to foster a sense of hospitality and strive to actively involve every single parishioner in some way into St. John's family of faith. By bringing the parish together in a more social atmosphere, we hope to strengthen a sense of belonging among our church's family.

5) Parish web site: We would like to post more information on the church web site, and we talked about what we would like to add to PCLC's area.

6) New members/volunteers: Our group really needs more members and a pool of volunteers to help occasionally with events. We talked about how to gain this assistance and how to get the word out. We also discussed certain groups, commissions (committees) and possibly even families "sponsor" some Food and Fellowship events and assisting with the greeting, set up, clean up, etc.

7) Budget: We discussed keeping track of expenditures on a monthly basis and obtaining a monthly report. We also talked about the money that is donated at the various events and how to handle that.

8) Newcomer's Welcome Baskets: We discussed how this has been done in the past, what might be in the baskets and how they might be delivered to the new parishioners.

9) Bulletin Board in Hallway: We want to update the bulletin board and post upcoming events there. We would also like to have a sign-up area there to encourage parishioners to pitch in with an activity or become an official member of our commission.

10) Time and Talent Fair: This will be held October 27 & 28. We will update our display and possibly get a brochure of some type to hand out. Everyone felt it would also be a good time to encourage parish community involvement by having a sign up sheet for helpers.

11) Parish Festival: We served 908 people! Everyone felt it was a great accomplishment and that many, many people made it happen and made it successful.

Present: Craig Brooks, Sonia Redmond, Sue Schettler, Kathy Dix, Dave Klostermann, Natalie Klostermann.
