Parents/Guardians, On
October
17, the youth of St. John the Baptist are invited to follow the gift
bearers to
the altar and deposit needed supplies for the Southeast Linn Community
Center
in Lisbon. Two
baskets will be placed on
either side of the altar for the donated paper products, dry goods, etc. Members
of the Social
Justice Commission will
deliver the collected items to the Center. This
mission will be continued each weekend at both
the Saturday and
Sunday Mass. Southeast
Linn Community Center serves families in the Mt. Vernon and Lisbon
school
district. The center has requests for canned and dry goods that would
include
flour and sugar. They
ask that the flour
and sugar be purchased in 5# bags as they have to be put in plastic
bags. Paper
products in demand are toilet paper and
Kleenex. Canned and
dry goods are always
wanted. We request
that you check the
date on the cans. Outdated food will not be delivered.
The
center always has need for cash. If
you give cash, put it in a sealed envelope
and note that it is for Southeast Linn Community Center.
Together,
as
stewards of God’s creation, we can move mountains by bringing
one can of food,
a box of Kleenex or other requested items and adding them to the
baskets on
either side of the altar, filling them up quickly until they overflow. "For I was hungry and you
gave me
something to eat, I was thirsty
